Staging Stasis, Rotterdam, NL

Artist residency on the radio airwaves with Natalia Papaeva, hosted by Radio Stasis.

Staging Stasis is a residency programme established by Radio Stasis. Working through the medium of radio, the residency offers creatives based in Rotterdam the possibility to experiment and collaborate, while growing their local network.

Each residency pairs one of the Radio Stasis hosts with another creative based in Rotterdam, for a period of four weeks. Matched based on overlaps in their practice, the residents are encouraged to deep dive into their working methods, and collaboratively experiment with how their practices can be reinterpreted, translated or further developed within a sound based medium. As a residency, Staging Stasis is not focused on end results but instead on the steps that lead you there.

During the four week period, Radio Stasis hands over the keys to the residents, giving them access to equipment and our digital radio waves to use as they see fit. In December 2021 Radio Stasis will host a public event that brings together all the residents who have participated in the programme between July-November.

Staging Stasis was a radio residency established and hosted by Radio Stasis. In each residency two creatives were paired together to collaborate and translate their practice through the medium of radio. The residency focuses on experimentation and we encourage the pairs to open up their sonic sketchbooks and share their research, processes and works in progress.

The first five residencies culminated in an evening of live performances and a radio broadcast at WORM on the 12th May 2022. Building upon the concept of Radio Stasis ie. a state of prolonged immobility caused by great radio, we tuned in to each pair - Jeanne & Marta got lost on the way to the venue, Natalia & Ceola shared their voices and their words, Kirsten & Meghan made small noises big, Tuana & Roberta spoke to plants and Miguel finally sent that message to Julia.
